✡ Sound Consultation ✡
I make myself available primarily for consultation- I’m here to help you make the right decisions. I also design systems and components of systems, and occasionally do installation work (limited by my responsibilities at IHOP-Atl and Daniel Academy).
HOUSES OF PRAYER: If your needs are for Harp & Bowl style worship, please seek my assistance. There are many facets of H&B that traditionally trained (or not-so-trained) designers just do not get. They don’t know the difference between Prophetic Singers and backup singers, they have likely never hidden a complete inter-team communications system within a sound design. They likely don’t know how to make a click track work well within such a talk-back system, either. They will also design a ‘stage’ for performance with a leader, rather than a ‘platform’ layout that encourages eye contact between worship leader, prayer leader, and chorus leader (three leaders is not in any handbook). They won’t understand the need for multiple worship leader positions, because no matter how many times you talk about it, the concept of rotating worship teams without a break or soundcheck will not compute. One of the things that makes me uniquely equipped for this job is that I’ve been on the platform at every position doing H&B since early 2005-- i play bass and then think, ‘what would help me.’ I lead worship and assess, ‘what could be done better.’ I’ve chorus lead, I’ve prayer lead, I’ve played keys, and I’ve played the hammered dulcimer. I don’t just run the sound as a tech or design it as a designer; I’m on the platform 12+ hours a week using the equipment. I’m also the guy that’s in charge of the care and maintenance of equipment that’s running non-stop since Feb 2006. So I know the ins and outs of the equipment I use.
What I’m not:
I’m not your congregation’s token sound dude that the elders hope (or just assume) has wisdom, because they haven’t a clue when it comes to sound.
I’m not your congregation’s sound tech that actually has some real world training and professional service in the industry.
I’m not the (sadly very common) company in your town that wants to sell you expensive pro audio gear and promises wonderful things, but hasn’t a clue about sound design, and ends up wasting your money.
I’m not the company that actually understands a few things about sound design, and is still trying to sell you their products and take as much of your money as they can.
I’m not one of the VERY FEW companies on the planet that actually does design well, and wants your venue to sound as amazing as it possibly can. (This would be the guys you SHOULD BE USING, but you probably don’t know who they are)
What I am:
I’m a missionary who loves good sound, knows a bit about getting that good sound, and seriously wants to help you get your venue sounding the best it can. I don’t have product on my shelf to sell you, but I will advise you about what to buy. I know what a budget means, and I can recommend what works within your abilities. I can help you plan and budget for the future to ‘build’ your sound system over time, or simply make way for the additions you really are likely to make (even though you can’t ever see doing it that way now). When it comes to purchasing, I’m not making any of the money, so I’m simply free to help you get the most for your dollar. I’ve built connections and friendships in this business, and can refer you to honest and fair sales reps (they do exist, praise God). I know just a bit more about the physics of real sound design than most of the “pro”-audio install companies out there. (Let me refer you to some of my past clients who came to me AFTER the ‘pros’ made a mess). And when you need more expert design than I can offer, and can pay for it, then I’m so very happy to refer you to the people who can really help, and will do it right the first time-- I mean really, I want to see you use the best.
Honestly, I’m just tired of ministries getting sold installs that don’t do what they promise, and sound terrible. I’m tired of ministries sounding unprofessional after the supposed ‘professionals’ got them to drop thousands of dollars into the waste basket. I’m aware that most church elders, pastors, worship leaders, and music directors don’t know the science and technology of good sound, and often make poor choices because of good sales pitches or bad advice. And since God has given me a gifting in this area, I ought to use it to help spread the good sound of the gospel everywhere.
